New York 87 Final
Recap | Box Score
115 Boston

A. Johnson 21 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 3FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 2 PTS | +21 +/-Another game, another day of getting killed on the glass. He was a +21, but his offensive contributions remain minimal after that standout effort against the Bulls.

K. Olynyk 30 MIN | 6-11 FG | 3-5 3FG | 4-4 FT | 7 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 19 PTS | +25 +/-Didn’t take him long to shake off the rust. He’s back in the starting five where the team needs him right now. Will be interesting to see if he stays there once Horford returns.

I. Thomas 28 MIN | 9-17 FG | 3-5 3FG | 8-8 FT | 3 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 29 PTS | +16 +/-29 points gives him a 26.2 ppg average through eight games. That’s the ninth-highest mark in the NBA right now. Taking him off some ballhandling responsibilities only helped get his offense flowing early.

M. Smart 34 MIN | 5-13 FG | 2-7 3FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 10 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | +23 +/-Talk about making an impact immediately upon becoming a starter. I was a bit surprised he didn’t get the starting wing spot right away once Crowder went down, but he won’t be giving it up anytime soon. His point play was the biggest plus (10 assists) of this performance.

A. Bradley 32 MIN | 5-17 FG | 1-4 3FG | 4-4 FT | 10 REB | 2 AST | 4 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 15 PTS | +6 +/-Four double-doubles in eight games? That’s two more than he had in his first seven NBA seasons combined. Shot was off, but as long as he’s helping on the glass, team can get away with that.

J. Jerebko 21 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-1 3FG | 1-2 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | -6 +/-Five points and five boards qualifies as one of his performances of the year. Not exactly the most encouraging sign but Stevens will take any kind of adequate play from his bench unit these days.

J. Brown 17 MIN | 3-9 FG | 1-3 3FG | 3-8 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | +9 +/-A move to the bench serves him well, as he came out with more fire tonight. Rough night at the free throw line prevented this from being a standout performance but he was far more active on both ends of the floor.

T. Zeller 21 MIN | 3-6 FG | 0-0 3FG | 5-7 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 3 TO | 11 PTS | +15 +/-At this rate, he might be getting more minutes than Amir Johnson soon when Horford comes back. Against true bigs, Zeller is at least a guy who can find some offense while running the pick-and-roll with Thomas or Smart.

T. Rozier 27 MIN | 1-8 FG | 1-1 3FG | 7-8 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | +28 +/-The shooting numbers were ugly, but the aggressiveness stood out from the second-year guard. Celtics have been relying far too much on Isaiah Thomas to get to the free throw lin, so eight free throws in 27 minutes is a promising sign for the guard.

Brad Stevens
Made two changes to the starting lineup and got a blowout win out of it. The Knicks were shorthanded without mess (and are a mess of a team anyway) but any kind of positive performance (besides the rebounding) is what this group needed right now.

Used to be the best Celtic blog. It’s been way behind and uninteresting for several years now. There used to be a huge community of commenters and they’re basically all gone.
