Recap: 76ers (Yes, Those 76ers) 111, Celtics 102

i

The Celtics lost to the Philadelphia 76ers. Let’s not sugarcoat things – losing to a team that just dropped 26 in a row is rough. But as you peruse these grades, you will see a lot of positivity. Why? Frankly, I thought a lot of players were decent tonight individually. The team struggled to play together, and I docked a lot of the bigs for their awful defense around the rim, but I didn’t hate myself watching this game.

Anyway, here are the grades:

Philadelphia 76ers 111 Final
Recap | Box Score
102 Boston Celtics
Brandon Bass, PF 30 MIN | 5-10 FG | 2-2 FT | 11 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 12 PTS | -9

Bass worked really hard in the first half but succumbed to the awfulness in the second. He gets docked for the interior defense along with the rest of the bigs.

Jeff Green, SF 33 MIN | 4-8 FG | 6-8 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 15 PTS | -9

15 points on eight shots is absolutely an acceptable line from Jeff Green. Was he always as aggressive as he could have been? No, but I’ll take an efficient evening.

Kris Humphries, C 15 MIN | 2-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | -10

Not sure why he didn’t play more minutes.

Rajon Rondo, PG 38 MIN | 4-7 FG | 3-5 FT | 11 REB | 16 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 7 TO | 11 PTS | -11

Efficient line, highlight plays, a triple-double, a ton of assists…poor Rondo. This season has to be killing him.

Jerryd Bayless, PG 39 MIN | 8-20 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 6 TO | 23 PTS | -8

A lot of shots, but a lot of production and really solid 3-point shooting. All in favor of keeping Bayless, a show of hands? /raises hand

Chris Johnson, SF 19 MIN | 2-11 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 9 PTS | -3

Ton of effort, minimal production.

Jared Sullinger, C 30 MIN | 5-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 3 TO | 10 PTS | -2

Fouled out in 30 minutes and was one of the main culprits allowing the 76ers to get whatever they wanted around the basket.

Kelly Olynyk, C 20 MIN | 6-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | +3

Kelly is starting to realize that he needs to take open 3-pointers. If he took as many open looks as he got, he might be averaging 18+ points over the past few weeks.

Phil Pressey, PG 15 MIN | 2-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 4 PTS | +4

5’11 Phil Pressey dunked, so he gets an A+.

Brad Stevens

Tonight was probably the most down Stevens has seemed after a loss all year. This season is either going to light an unquenchable fire in his stomach or break him like china.

One Thing We Saw

  1. Lots of Rondo highlights, lots of points from Bayless, a near-sell-out crowd cheering for an early April match-up against a tanking team and a loss that was big for the standings. A lot to like here, despite the embarrassing result.

i am canot believe this score we are loose this guys? come on..
usual a+ perform rondos best gard most nba

  • StaticFunctions

I think Rondo should’ve gotten an A-, mostly due to the 7 turnovers. Still, its nice to see him making more and more progress.

  • mike

pressey is def not taller than 5’8″, just listed at 5’11”

    • Tom Westerholm

      You aren’t wrong.

  • Tafas

expectations for rondo are way too low here if you’re giving him an “A” with 7 turnovers. Sure he had a triple double but his plus/minus was -11. He deserves a B+ at Most. A’s are for players who create opportunities to win the game.

All this is from someone who is obsessed and loves to watch rondo play.

+ – is a really inaccurate stat. 5 minutes of average play can come out + while a huge 30 point 10 rebound night can end up –

He still had over twice the assists than turnovers. :)
