Recap: Raptors 99, Celtics 90

We can’t do grades after every game, since most nights they range from C+ to F, but in a game like tonight when a few players were a great and a few players were…less great, we’ll bust them back out. My apologies for their tardiness — like many of you, I got caught up in the Miami/Indiana bloodbath.

Toronto Raptors 99 Final

Recap | Box Score

90 Boston Celtics
Brandon Bass, PF 26 MIN | 2-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | -19
Brandon Bass would like to sim to the end of the season.

Jeff Green, SF 20 MIN | 3-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 6 PTS | -14
Jeff Green gift-wrapped this game to his detractors who (correctly) rag on his inconsistency. I still maintain he’s miscast on this squad, but that’s a different topic.

Kris Humphries, C 17 MIN | 1-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | -7
He can’t be Boston’s third best player EVERY night.

Rajon Rondo, PG 32 MIN | 3-9 FG | 3-4 FT | 4 REB | 15 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | -10
Rondo gets docked minimally for a poor shooting night, but my GOODNESS he can control a game offensively. The Celtics robbed him of at least four or five assists as well.

Avery Bradley, PG 37 MIN | 6-15 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 16 PTS | -22
I want to give Bradley credit for producing SOMETHING, but when it takes 15 shots to tally 16 points, it’s hard to fully approve.

Chris Johnson, SF 26 MIN | 5-8 FG | 2-4 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 13 PTS | +8
When was the last time Chris Johnson scored 13 points or more with just one 3-pointer? I don’t know the answer, but I know it hasn’t happened since he joined the Celtics.

Jared Sullinger, C 31 MIN | 8-17 FG | 6-8 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 26 PTS | -2
Any time Jared Sullinger goes 4-for-6 from 3-point range, setting a career-high in 3-pointers made, he’s getting an A+. Those are the rules.

Kelly Olynyk, C 22 MIN | 3-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 7 PTS | +10
Olynyk gets a bump because I remember him having a better game than his stats indicated. Yell at me if you must.

Phil Pressey, PG 12 MIN | 0-2 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | +8
Pressey still can’t shoot, but he distributed really nicely. Like Rondo, at least two or three assists were stolen away.

Jerryd Bayless, PG 15 MIN | 1-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 3 PTS | +6
Is his recent hot stretch over?

I love grades! I don’t care what they are — there’s something about the format that’s extremely entertaining. More! More!

Guess Stevens is right about Sully taking threes. Look at the stat line – just like Kevin Love. Work on that 3 over the summer, Sully!

Rondo and arguably Olynyk are the only consistent players. Remember when haters said Hall of Famers made Rondo look good? 15 assists with one of the worst teams in the league.
Green shows flashes of top ten in the league player in a few games, then struggles to reach 15 ppg other times.
Bradley takes 100 shots, misses 95 of them. Once in a while hits around 50% and plays a good game on offense.
Sullinger disapeared since the all-star break, then he has a game like this.

What’s so consistent about Olynyk’s play?? Dude was unable to cope with Brooklyn and against Toronto he was invisible. I like him but he is far from consistent.
