Chris Babb was fighting for his NBA life on Sunday night. After coming through with another positive effort, including a team-high +11 in Boston’s win over the Pistons last night, he’ll be back with the Celtics for another week. Babb confirmed the news after the game that he would be back with Boston for another 10-day deal.
Celtics’ assistant GM Mike Zarren gave him the news after last night’s games in which Babb posted two points, a rebound and a steal in 13 minutes of action.
“I’m just really focusing on just playing hard when I get into game, when I get my opportunities. Play hard, be prepared, and know the role. Just continue to do what I’ve been doing,” Babb said upon reflecting on his goals for the next couple weeks with the team.
Boston has enough room under the luxury tax to sign Babb for the remainder of the season if they choose to.
A few other items of interest on Rondo’s historic assist night last night:
First, he passed Bill Russell for fifth most assists in Celtics history with 4,101.
“Anytime you pass up arguably the best Celtic of all timem your name is mentioned in the same breath as him, it’s definitely an honor and a compliment. He wasn’t a point guard, but he played here [for awhile.] To get on the same list and to pass him up is definitely an honor.”
If you’re wondering, in Game 6 at Chicago in 2009, Rondo had 19 assists without a turnover. So, you know, that happened.
