Ainge: Expect Smaller Deals for Celtics Today…If Any Are Made

Brandon BassDon’t expect a blockbuster deal from the Celtics today, but it sounds like some smaller deals could be on the horizon. Here’s the latest from Steve Bulpett of The Boston Herald about the possibilities

That line of thinking fits well with what Danny Ainge said on 98.5 The Sports Hub this morning in his conversation with Joe Haggerty and Ryan Johnston filling in for Toucher and Rich.

Via CBS Boston:

“It’s been a busy last few days, but you sift through a lot in the week of the trade deadline. Today, I don’t know how busy it will be,” Ainge said Thursday morning in his weekly appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub. “There is a possibility of things happening, but I’m not sure anything big and exciting will happen.”

“We have nothing going right now,” said Ainge. “Unless someone meets our demands or if we change our views and meet someone else’s demands we could get something done. But typically everyone is posturing until the last minute.”

“We’re not panicking or not feeling pressured to do a deal right now,” said Ainge.

Reading in-between the lines here, it sounds like, as we anticipated, that Rondo won’t be going anywhere since no one is meeting the asking price. The lesser names on the roster though? Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries, perhaps even Jerryd Bayless or Jeff Green could all very much be in play in the next few hours. A few places to key an eye on: Phoenix and Charlotte. Both teams have salary room, expiring contracts, and the Suns have draft picks as well that would interest Boston.

Sixers were awful and a near certainty to finish lower than Boston with Hawes. This doesn’t change anything.
