Post-game Reactions

Picture21_crop_exact-1According to a report from Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, the Celtics are interested in trading Jeff Green, with Atlanta Hawks being one of the main frontrunners looking to deal for the veteran small forward.

CH’s Take: With the trade deadline less than two weeks ahead, let the trade rumors begin!

A couple things to take note of here with the report. First off, Lawrence is not a local guy, but he’s covered the league for 20+ years so he’s certainly credible. While the Atlanta interest may not amount to much, there is something to the fact it appears that the Celtics are “aggressively” shopping Green. If that is true, the front office has determined he is not a part of their future and wants to cash in their chips on him right now.

If so, I think that’s the right move. His up-and-down play so deep into his NBA career doesn’t speak well for him and he hasn’t performed well as a top option on a team. The team is paying him too much for him to be a supporting piece, so if they want to move him, now is the time, when he has another year at a reasonable price on his deal.

As far as the Hawks fit goes, it’s a possibility. They have room for him on the roster, and salary flexibility as well. The issue is, with Al Horford likely done for the season (or most of it), doesn’t make much sense for them to want to bring in a relatively high priced guy, while giving up a low-cost asset like DeMarre Carroll (earning just 2.65 million this year).

The Hawks have little to fill in the gap to make a potential salary match (Celtics wouldn’t have much interest in Elton Brand and need more than DeMarre Carroll) in such a deal, so we’d be looking at 3-way deal here if there is serious trade talks going on. We’ll find out more on that in the coming days. Carroll though is the kind of low-price potential high-upside asset that the Celtics would be looking for in their continued rebuild.

We’ll have more on this report in the coming hours, but for now, stay tuned to CelticsHub for the latest.

    Git ‘er done!

Jeff Green for Carroll, Ayon, and Brand matches.
But it gives us 2 more PF’s. The latter two would be around 5.5 million in expiring deals. Carroll off the books the season after.

I would hope we could get a 2015 1st rounder or a couple 2nd rounders from Atlanta in such a scenario.

Oddly enough these rumors pop up the day after Danny Ainge watched Jabari Parker(he actually went to the game @ boston college) drop 29 and 16, with 5 3’s.

He wants to tank and get this guy and I don’t blame him.

      • The Cardinal

No need to tank. As long as Bradley is putting up 20-plus shots per 48 minutes, we’re doomed! Yeah, I know – confirmation bias tonight.

        • The Cardinal

AB also has close to zero court vision and was responsible for a third to half of the first half turnovers. Upgrade at 2 guard should definitely be on the acquire list.

    • hax

Oh Carroll & Brand works too without Ayon. We’d just save 1.5 million instantly thats all. 😉

  • hax

    Getting bent over by Dallas.

    • The Cardinal

Yeah, but it’s nice to see Rondo, Johnson, Sully, and KO show flashes of what we hope to see going forward. Those 4 guys continue to play hard.

Celtic Pride at the end 😀 Nice comeback attempt.

I don’t care about the players that might come back. I want Atlanta’s 2014 1st rounder.

If we do not get a lot for Green we will regret it. Green will blossom into a star. Give him a little longer? He is a rookie. What I mean by that is He has always played on a team with stars ahead of him. This is the 1st time he is the number one choice for scoring. When we get another star or two or three he will be unstoppable. Keep him ! Unless we get another star.

    • Mark

You are hoping for something that will never happen. Green will never be a star. He is what he is at this point. An inconsistent player that has moments when he dazzles and lights up the scoreboard. Unfortunately what he is is a player that is just there on the court. By that I mean he’ll go quarters or even games when you hardly notice he’s playing. He’s an average player who’s time to shine is right now because he is, or should be, the C’s goto player but isn’t.

He’s been in the league for 7 years now. Six of which he’s actually played. He is what he is and that isn’t a star but a fifth option on a contender.

      • Steven

5th option on a contender, I disagree. If they kept him and move bass, they could get a decent to great player in the draft possible a Center or a Small Forward, and or get a mid to high free agent and contend greatly. Sully is getting better by the day KO is getting a lot better. I like this team!!!! But if you get rid of Green you need to get expiring contracts and a pick or Harrison Barnes love the kid.

    • CelticsBIG3

A little longer???? Green has had his chance for 52 games. Enough is enough.

  • hax

I definitely want a 2014 2nd round pick -at least-
1st round, 2nd round, undrafted(by mock drafts) I see guys in all three of those I’m interested in.

  • Steven

OK Jeff Green to the Hawks for Caroll, Louis Williams and Hawks 2014 2nd rd

    • Joe

yea lou williams, now were talking!
