Bill Sharman died five days ago. This post is late. The truth is that I considered posting about him on Friday, but everything I started to write felt stupid or fake. Because I truly do not know much about Bill Sharman.
I know he was Cousy’s backcourt mate, and that he was one of basketball’s first great shooters. I guess that information would have sufficed for a post, but it felt hugely unnecessary for an obituary.
So instead of that, read this post by the Charlotte Observer’s Scott Fowler, somebody who never met Bill Sharman but who learned what kind of guy he was. It’ll make you sort of tear up pleasantly. Then you’ll consider the fact that, if you ever did something cool for someone, they might post on Blogspot about it after you die, and how great that would be.
RIP Bill Sharman, good person.
