Post-game Reactions

Last night for all of us media members who covered what was probably one of the lowest rated games in Boston in recent history, there was a little surprise awaiting us at the end of the night. An unscheduled press conference from Rajon Rondo.

We hadn’t heard from the All-Star point guard since media day, although he had been a regular fixture with the team during practices and games. True to his word, he came out in full ANTA attire once Brad Stevens’ press conference wrapped up and gave us an engaging eight minutes where he reflected on a number of topics. Here are a few of the highlights:

On when he will return: “I’ll be returning in the 2013-2014 season. I’m feeling great, working out every day. I’m able to handle more as far as compound workouts versus me just doing one workout a day. So I’m doing more on my leg and I’m handling it. So, I’m getting better. It’s getting stronger each day.”

Close to taking part in contact? “I got fitted for my first brace, so I don’t think contact will be too far from now. So I’m just waiting to get cleared from my doctors.”

On when he hopes he will return: “I hope I can play against the Raptors, but that’s not likely. I’m taking it one week at a time. I know it’s getting stronger each week and whenever I’m able to jump off my right leg and probably dunk, that’s when I’ll be back to play.”

What percentage is the leg at: “I can give you about as far as my leg percentage – I’m probably at about 87%, give or take, depending on how my day goes.”

On team’s progress during preseason: “I think we got better each game, besides the Minnesota game, we’re getting better. Guys are still learning rotations but they’re very open. So if we continue to grow, keep an open mind, we’ll be better off than a lot of people expect. So I’m looking forward to the challenge myself, as far as what I can do from the sidelines for this team for the time being. But you can never underestimate, or estimate, a guy’s heart. So we’ve got a lot of guys in the room that are up for the challenge and I’m sure I’ll do well.”

On Gerald Wallace’s comments Sunday about effort: “Everybody has their opinion. I don’t think Gerald is wrong to speak his opinion or speak his mind. I think a lot of what he was talking about is that you gotta play for one another. And maybe nights that you don’t have your game going, offensively, you still have to get down and communicate on defense, help the next man and just play hard for the next guy. It may not be your night, and some nights it is going to be your night. But at the end of the day it’s all about the name on the front of the jersey. All that matters is the wins and losses, not your individual stats. If we can continue to think like that, we’ll be fine.”

Here’s the full press conference, via the Celtics YouTube account:

One of the most talkative press conference we’ve had from Rondo. He appears to be in good spirits and is itching to get back out there to run the show for Brad Stevens. Speaking of which, here’s the coaches full press conference from last night:

2104 season, we have a hell of a wait then!

any thoughts on an Omer Asik for Jeff Green trade or Jeff Green, Courtney Lee/Avery Bradley and any combination of the Nets picks if needed for greg monroe?

I love a good fantasy trade as much as the next C's homer, but couldn't you at least have picked a realistic target? This is Darryl Morey here. He ain't taking on Green's contract in Green's current state, and certainly isn't giving up a mega-valuable asset to do so.

Monroe can also fetch much better. You don't trade big for small.

Giving up the guy with the 2nd highest scoring game last season for a 10-10 center who hit his ceiling last year?

  • James Patrick

That lottery can't get here soon enough. lol

Bass and fillers for Asik makes a lot of sense… they need a stretch 4 to play with Dwight, and he played with him in Orlando
