Grit and Balls: Celtics 92, Knicks 86

Down 11-0 four minutes into the game, the Celtics were left for dead. Then, they remembered themselves. These guys don’t die. They just won’t do it. C

Game 6 is 7pm at the TD Garden. Friday night.

Another step towards history? We’ll find out Friday.

Full grades and player reaction live from Madison Square Garden (CelticsHub is live on the scene) on the way….

  • Robert

    You were saying, JR?

  • NZNICK33

    Let's make history!!!

  • High Rollers

    That’s the Ticket.

  • ghoulbuns

Yayayayayayayayayayay haters choke on it I'm a true believer…always have been, check my posts. Eat a soggy one NY and especially all you Hollywood ass mufuckas wearing black (I'm looking at you Kenyon Martin)…I bleed green and all you NY fans are shook!

  • Had22B

This elbow did change everything for us. There's nothing wrong with being confident in your ability to win a game, but u gotta make sure u're not crossing the line. I don't mind Terry talking at all, he backs it up.
These Knicks fans, as well as some players are very arrogant and cocky smh
About the funeral…. Well its postponed!!
    GO C's

  • GymRat

So glad to see this team finally putting it all together. If NY isn't scared…they should be. Expect them to play desperate and sloppy in game 6 and open the door for a game 7.

  • IBleedGreen

Mad respect for Celtics, especially KG – you’re forever my favorite player.

  • Glenn from cheers

Hey Kenyon… I’ve been to my fair share of funerals… and buddy, this wasn’t one of them.

  • Jim

The guys came through. Thanks for the effort . I can not wait for the next game. Go Celtics

  • The Cardinal

Gloat, gloat – the Knicks are talented but at least two or their top six players are immature, and one of those two has gone back to his destructive ball hoggin' ways now that the pressure is on. The Knicks were bitten on the ass tonight and it didn't feel very good. All the pregame yakkin' when they haven't done nothin' yet even annoyed the TNT guys.

  • I_Love_Green

We got the ball rolling after game 4, and now after this game it just got a big push. Obviously playing at home we're more comfortable but don't forget we got blown out game 3 and needed OT to win in game 4. We can definitely push this to 7 games, but just don't get too confident.

Keep believing guys and go Celtics!

  • someguyinsac

Déjà vu all over again, right? =)

    • janos

hi sac! what the great night nba are you have chance go game warior is close you or not

  • fabzzz

I love the Celtics, probably too much, but I submit my vote to move on from the “grit and balls” mantra. It has to be the least appealing words to throw a conjunction between. Besides, new team, new mantra, right?

    • tbunny

      Heart of a Champion.

    • Josh_5

Nope, not doin it. KG coined it so I'm gonna use it.

  • Tomass

    Win one for Red.

  • chris m

Time to pour a Celtics Smash – muddle 17 mint leaves, 1/2 oz creme de menthe, bitters,- pour 2.5 oz irish whiskey

    • janos

now you are talk good one !

  • chris m

    With ice of course

  • GymRat

We made Charles Barkley happy, that's for sure.

  • Pauper

Maybe Doc finally read some of my posts….NOT. At least he came to the same conclusion but late, let Terry be the play maker and give TWill a shot at the point aince AB isn't a pg as exhibited by that horrible pass over KG into the post. Let AB go back to focusing on cutting, exclusively corner 3s, and playing defense. Asking too much kills his game like it does Pierce. Either Pierce was too tired to play hero ball tonight or finally realized Ray Allen left the team, he played within the offense for the most part, made the right passes, and didn't completely run out of gas in Q4. Back in Boston, maybe Randolph can get a few minutes, get us some rebounds and hustle points, and keep KG fresh.

  • Anthony

While I'm happy we got the win, those second-half scoring lulls and Pierce's unveteran like ball-handling and passing were cringe-worthy. I have no idea why all these unforced turnovers are happening. It's almost as though they wanted to give away the game. Very curious to see how CH grades him tonight,

You should feel comfortable and be in good position for a win with a 15 point lead with 9 mins left. Or a 13 point lead with under 5 mins left. Or a 12 point lead with under 3 mins left. But the entire time, it was nerve-wrecking and I couldn't help but wonder if one of those turnover-prone, scoring lulls was coming. Luckily it didn't and we came away with the win.

I wasn't too thrilled with the post game trash talk by JCrawford either. That's just unnecessary.

Celts, please win the next 2 game!! I'm so sick of all the Knicks fans yapping away for no reason.

    C's shooting numbers: FG: 45.7%3-pt: 50.0%FT: 100.0%.

Smith and Anthony combined FG: 11-38.

    Rebounding: 41-39, C's.

….How did we win this game by only 8? Was it not as close as it appeared? These are not rhetorical questions, I am genuinely confounded.

I guess it has to do with TO's and Offensive rebounds…

  • IBleedGreen

Hopefully T-will gets Bradley's minutes after this game

  • Staki

Anyone else really proud of the way Bass played tonight? Really happy with his contribution on both ends of the floor

    • kg215

Gotta give him credit, he stepped up big time when I least expected it. Last year he was really good during the regular season then disappeared in the playoffs. This year he was pretty terrible in the regular season even though we had a thin bigman rotation and the minutes were there. Now when I think there is no way he is going to do anything in the playoffs he starts playing well. Don't know what changed for him, he wasn't lazy early in the season he just played poorly. Now he is definitely making a difference.

    • CG12

Seriously. I was definitely among the masses harshing on Bass earlier this year. His turnaround the last couple of months has been remarkable. His D on Carmelo has been unbelievable, and you can see the difference in the C's when Bass is giving them something on offense. Mad props to Brandon.

  • Mike

It's really too bad we don't have Jason Collins to provide an offensive spark. I read where he's mastered the back door cut

  • High Rollers

    Mike. Dumbass.

    • fabzzz

      Sure is…sure is.
