“In the next 18 years, world, Celtics fans, look out,” Paul Pierce on his newborn son.
Paul Pierce sat out Monday’s game in Minnesota due to personal reasons. Luckily, sometimes personal reasons can be positive things, as it turns out Pierce headed home to be by his wife for the birth of his first son, Prince. The little guy was the third child for Pierce and his wife, Julie, and was born last night at 8:21 P.M. according to Pierce himself talking to Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell on WEEI after the game last night.
Boston’s captain remains a bit banged up with an ankle injury suffering in the team’s loss to the Knicks on Sunday, but returned to the floor last night after undoubtedly spending some quality time with mother and son over the past 24 hours.
Pierce spoke about his third child for a bit at today’s practice and the potential pressures that might come with being the child of an NBA superstar.
“I just want him to grow up, smart kid, be into the books, whatever happens in sports happens,” he said.
Pierce also had some wise words about whether he’ll be teaching him his trademark step-back jumper in his later years.
“I actually want to put a baseball in his hand, in his left hand,” Pierce said. The Truth clearly knows what you need to do to get the odds in your favor of succeeding in the big leagues.
We have to talk about the name a little bit though. I mean, is there a better sounding name for a future basketball star than Prince Paul Pierce? Triple P? That just rolls off the tongue. Unclear yet if the little guy has any scholarship offers, or if Prince was introduced to the world in a special ceremony, similar to the one depicted here.
Congrats to The Truth!
