Atlanta Hawks 107 Final
Recap | Box Score
118 Boston Celtics
Chris Wilcox, PF 13 MIN | 2-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | 0
Chris Wilcox started, but committed two fouls early in the game. He had limited playing time and did not do much.
Brandon Bass, PF 30 MIN | 5-7 FG | 3-3 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 3 BLK | 2 TO | 13 PTS | +5
Brandon Bass continues to fill in the holes when needed. He had an efficient shooting night and had a team-high three blocks. Bass is starting to look like the 2011-12 shooter Celtics fans were used to, so a few more solid scoring nights will keep his confidence going.
Jeff Green, PF 38 MIN | 11-20 FG | 2-3 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 27 PTS | -2
Jeff Green with a game-high 27 points. How about this guy? Coming off the game-winner against the Cavaliers, he is showing the aggressiveness that Celtics fans want to see. In addition, he has scored double-digit points in each of his last 10 games, by far his longest streak as a Celtic. His 20 field goal attempts are also tied for his second-most in a game since he came to Boston.
Paul Pierce, SF 38 MIN | 8-18 FG | 2-3 FT | 10 REB | 10 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 20 PTS | +28
While it was not the most efficient shooting night for the Captain, Paul Pierce still went for his ninth career regular season triple-double. The Celtics are now 9-0 in those games. Moreover, since 2007-08, Boston is 33-6 when Pierce has a regular season double-double.
Avery Bradley, PG 26 MIN | 3-7 FG | 2-2 FT | 0 REB | 4 AST | 4 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 8 PTS | +7
Fortunately, the Celtics did not need a big night from Avery Bradley, who has recently struggled from the field. Those four steals, which were one off his season-high, look relatively nice though. Bradley has been a mainstay on defense since he returned from his injury, so he just needs to keep that up and the shot will come.
Shavlik Randolph, PF 22 MIN | 4-6 FG | 1-2 FT | 13 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 9 PTS | +12
Now that was a Shav-Tastic performance from the 29-year-old North Carolina native! Coming into tonight, he had 14 rebounds per 36 minutes. Tonight, he bumped that up to 16. He became just the third Celtic reserve in almost 30 years to grab at least 13 rebounds in 22 or fewer minutes. His seven offensive rebounds were also the most by a Celtic off the bench in that little of playing time in over a decade. Thank you, Shavlik, for fighting off all those Hawks to get those extra offensive opportunities!
Jordan Crawford, SG 21 MIN | 2-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 5 PTS | +2
Shooters got to shoot. However, this shooter can pass, too. Doc Rivers has praised Jordan Crawford for his strong passing skills, so continue to look for those in addition to his deadly outside jumper.
Courtney Lee, SG 6 MIN | 0-0 FG | 2-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | -12
Very glad to have Courtney Lee back playing. Once he is fully healthy, he will be a huge asset to the Celtics defense.
Terrence Williams, SG 15 MIN | 3-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 6 PTS | +10
Terrence Williams provided the Celtics with some good minutes. He had some solid, hard dunks as a part of the Celtics scoring run in second quarter.
Jason Terry, SG 31 MIN | 7-10 FG | 5-6 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 24 PTS | +5
Jason Terry hit five three-pointers, tied for his most in a Celtics uniform. The other time he did that was the 5-of-14 performance in the triple-overtime game against the Nuggets. Friday against the Hawks he was much more efficient and it was arguably his best shooting performance in a while. The Celtics need this Terry for the playoffs.
Doc Rivers
It seemed like he pulled the right strings. The Celtics won the season series over the Hawks for the third consecutive season and for the fifth time in the last six years.

Danny pushes Miami’s buttons, Courtney returns, and the C’s get a solid win against Atlanta? It’s a good day.

Your Damn skippy it was! Celtics played a good game tonight and Randolph…freakin rebounding beast! Glad we got him, never heard of him before he donned the green but so far I love what I’m seeing especially with such limited minutes. Also Green looks like he’s finally turning the corner, I almost feel bad for all the things I said about him but time will tell. He keeps putting on this kind of game and I will eat my words…dry.

Shav is gonna lead us to banner 18!!

Did anyone else notice the look on Chris Wilcox's face like he was saying "Damn! There goes my PT!"?

Feels like Shalvik already knows his defence assignments better than Wilcox. Wilcox is such a punk.

  • The Cardinal

    Kenyon who?

Good grades. And nice to see Jet break out of his shooting slump. I also think he doesn't get credit for the little things. He's not a good one on one defender (few people are in this league) but he's actually a pretty solid help and rotation defender. I was paying particular attention to him chasing Korver around, and he was really getting around the endless assault of screens and bothering the passing lanes forcing Korver to move off his preferred spots to come and get the ball. He gets big steals and sets great picks. I still love this signing, but obviously when he shoots like this you see the upside and how dangerous he makes our offense.

Jeff Green over the past 3 games is averaging:

    22 ppg 7 rebs 5 assts 1.3 stl 1 blks

The rebounds are a bit skewed by a 10 reb game. But he's had 4 or more the last 4 games and 4 or more assists in the last 5. I hope he continues to stay aggressive once KG returns.

With KG and Lee back, an agressive Green, Jet shooting well, and the potential emergence of Shavlik, this team is a tough out for anyone in the East.

Randolph is definitely coming after Wilcox's minutes. He is a far stronger rebounder and plays much better team defense. Before the regular season is up, Randolph will be the first big off the bench (not counting J. Green if he goes back to the bench after KG comes back). It is clear that he just knows how to play team ball. He doesn't have Wilcox's straight line speed or leaping ability, but reads the game light-years better and knows how to use his body. Really good stuff.

      He's already got Wilcox min

The C's need to cut out the Q2 and Q3 doldrums that have been plaguing them. They inevitably start playing slower and chucking the ball all over the place. Keep the pace up, but play with discipline. For as well as Pierce played, he has had a string of games with multiple cringe-inducing passes.

Avery has really been scuffling. On both ends, much to my surprise. I feel like he is worrying about his offense too much. He needs to focus on defense and let offense come within the flow of the game.

It was really great to see Rondo back from surgery and on the bench!

I think Wilcox played his best ball when Rondo was on the floor. His real strength is he speed and finding seems to slash to the hoop. With Rondo that would lead to easy alley oops and quick points. Without Rondo that pass isn't happening so you're left with a guy who is an average (at best) defender and rebounder. He's definitely on his way out of the rotation once KG is back if Shavlik can continue like this.

It also makes me want to see White get some run. Do we have two hidden gems?

    • boston bobby

Unfortunately I do not think White possess the same tenacity on white collar work ethic on the boards.

      • greenboner

        blue collar not white.ahhh

  • Banner18

Love to see all these guys stepping up during the KG hiatus. But seriously, what has gotten into Bass? Love what he's doing right now. So much to say that he's looking like vintage (2011-2012) Bass. BEAT NY!
