Maxwell: I’m “Very Concerned” About KG’s Foot

No news is not necessarily good news when it comes to the health of Kevin Garnett. The Celtics will get together for practice in a couple hours in Waltham to get ready for the Knicks tomorrow night. For now though, Celtics radio color commentator Cedric Maxwell was on Sports Sunday last night on CSNNE with Michael Felger and had a few comments about Garnett’s status that weren’t particularly encouraging for a guy that travels with the team and is “in the know.”

Is there reason to be concerned? Cedric Maxwell says so. Maxwell was on Sports Sunday with Mike Felger to discuss the seriousness of KG’s injury.

“Well I think there’s a lot of concern when you think about it,” Maxwell said.

“Last night he got on the bus … kind of limping in. So I’m just very concerned right now looking at him last night.”

Maxwell also told Felger that Garnett was wearing a boot.

“Never a good thing,” Maxwell said. “At this time of the season, never in that situation for an older player.”

When will we find out results of Garnett’s MRI?

In all likelihood, it will be in a couple hours this afternoon when Doc Rivers addresses reporters at practice. CelticsHub will be on the scene live in Waltham to relay all the latest breaking news regarding Garnett’s status moving forward. Whatever the diagnosis is, you have to think we won’t be seeing Garnett in uniform for at least a week if he’s wearing a boot. Unfortunately, it could be much more than that, although we won’t know for sure until a few hours.

Additionally, we should learn more about the health of Courtney Lee at that point as well, who is still recovering from a left sprained ankle, also suffered against Dallas Friday night. The Celtics host the Knicks at the Garden at 7pm tomorrow night. Who they will have in uniform for that game remains to be seen.

If KG is out C's are done… But maybe it can reverse if he can play when playoffs start – fresh and rested KG may be game changing factor. Hell, rest all vets, take 8th seed and go all out on heat in 1st round – sooner or later C's would face them and imo first option is better for us.

    • High Rollers

I'm all for it, but if that's the case, the hardest thing would be holding on to that eighth seed. We need the young guys and wild cards (a.k.a. Jordan Crawford) to play up to their abilities the rest of the way. Doc's gonna have to go all holy roller on their butts, get 'em pumped for the ride, get 'em inspired. 'Cause it's gonna be a real challenge.

I agree with Kafel and would add that Rivers should have been using Randolph and White more often during the past 5 games. Now, especially with KG out, Randolph can show us what hes made of in the rebound and defensive department (especially offensive rebs). They both need more play time to get them ready for the playoffs, and for Celtics fans to see why Ainge signed them on in the first place. They owes it to the fans who support and pay to see the team play high caliber b'ball.

SMH. We could’ve used the athleticism KMart is giving NYK right now … Regardless of the suppositions regarding “attitude”. Oh well.

    DJ White please stand up.

KMart is a washed up bum. Not including the locker room headaches, no friggen thanks.

I'm convinced we've still got a championship core, but we don't have a championship run in us this year; no way these guys don't gas out after a few rounds. I agree that at this point, best to take on Miami while the C's are healthiest, rather than suffering a painful defeat at the hands of another foe, or getting swept by Miami once everyone is beyond gassed in the ECF.

  • High Rollers

Doc said (according to Forsberg) that if he's given the option of playing KG every third game or giving him two weeks off, he wouldn't hesitate to go the latter route and shut him down in order to have him right as rain for the playoffs. I'm going to throw it out there that Doc goes this route and KG returns to action against the Nets at the Garden on April 10th. At least, if it were up to me, and if KG is as they seem to think he is, this would be my plan of action.

I actually think the Cs want to face the Heat in the 1st round when they're fresh, it makes sense don't it? Why try to avoid them till the ECFs when our 2 best players are out of gas.
