Post-game Reactions

The always terrific Celtics play-by-play announcer Mike Gorman got together with Toucher and Rich on 98.5 The Sports Hub this morning to talk on all things Celtics. Gorman’s weekly interview serves as one of the most informative and entertaining bits of radio you’ll hear.

The guys covered a number of topics, but one of the more intriguing ones that came up was the proposed 3-team trade involving Paul Pierce and Josh Smith. The C’s were reportedly considering this deal at the deadline. Rich asked Gorman whether he thought the C’s would have been a better team if they went through with that deal and Gorman provided a telling answer:

“I don’t. I’m not a big Josh Smith guy,” Gorman continued. “After that story from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports came out the other day, I talked to some people deep within the Celtics organization [about that trade proposal]. They said that trade never really got to the point that Adrian made it out to, that it almost happened. Was it on the table and proposed and on the table? Yeah. Was it ever going to really happen? They told me it never really got to the point of being strongly considered.”

I trust Gorman on this one, folks. There’s no question Pierce is a better player than Josh Smith right now, especially for this particular Celtics’ team. I don’t believe the C’s would be willing to sacrifice Pierce–even in a straight up deal–just to sign the young power forward to an inflated deal that he surely wouldn’t live up to. I’m just glad to see that the front office appeared to be on the same page as the rest of us, despite their long-rumored infatuation with Smith.

More of Woj blowing up trade talks into "Paul almost got traded!" I don't listen to anything that guy says any more.

Woj has definitely had more trade scoops in the past few years than any other reporter, lending credibility to his speculative articles (i.e. articles on trades that were close to happening). The thing is, none of us readers are in any position to find out for ourselves if anything he says in those articles is false.

Basically the theme that we have the tagline.
