To briefly shift the focus from Rajon Rondo’s injury, here are a few key videos from today.
Via ESPN Boston, here’s the Ray Allen tribute the C’s aired before today’s game:
Here’s Jeff Green’s titanic fourth quarter dunk:
And to return to Rondo, here’s Paul Pierce’s pained reaction to the news of the injury, as delivered by ESPN’s Doris Burke:
Just got back from the game. What a great great game. The thing that sticks out most though is the phenomenon I witnessed inside the Garden. That was when people started to find out through social media, etc that Rondo had an ACL tear. You could see it around the building and heard people chattering about it. In my section (326) my friends and I were probably the first people to find out. I didn't mention it to anyone because I had wished I hadn't heard about it myself; but you started hearing people talking about it.
We all got into the game, and for me personally it was almost like "he'll be fine" "we'll be fine", etc. and it was really a tremendously awesome game to experience live. It was on the ride back home down I-90 listening to the reporter on WEEI talking about it; and then hearing a Jeff Green interview where the reporter asked him what he thought about hearing the news that Rondo's season was done; and he hadn't even heard about it yet. It turned into a very awkward interview.
Now I'm left worrying about what's coming next. Presumably you have to do something with the roster. Paul Pierce trade? I hope not.
BIG3, I would not presume anything except that this team is made of grit and balls.
It was an incredible performance from these guys. The best play hands down was Jason Terry's block on Ray Allen's corner three attempt, an incredible play that probably won the game.
Glad to hear about it all from a fan who was there. Thanks.
I just hope it won't be the last time I see Pierce/KG or both in Celtic green. That will kill me; but if it was, it was the kind of perfomance from those guys that has been a trademark of this team over the last six years. A tremendous effort against a seemingly unmoveable force.
All the Rondo haters got their wish; he's not going to be playing for a WHILE. I'd love to see them bring in Delonte and keep everything together, but I'm pretty fearful that Ainge is going to pull the trigger on something big that will probably break up the band.
I don't like how Doris decided her it was her place to tell Paul of the news of Rondo's injury.
Yup. I thought that was awful.
The one with Jeff Green is even worse. Its only audio I think, ESPN Radio had the interview.
Anyone here hoping for a Delonte West reunion? he just signed with the Texas Legends (D-League)
Yes. I'm hoping for it. He would be perfect addition right now… just hoping there isn't some secret issue that soured Doc and Danny on the guy
I think Doris thought he already knew, that would be my guess. She figures if she knows about then the rest of the team must know also. I don’t see the problem.
Why all this talk about trading Pierce now that Rondos out? That doesn’t make any sense to me.
No, Doris had reported during the game that the coaches knew but the players didn't. SHE of all people knew that Pierce didn't know.
If anyone finds the Green interview, please post it. Thanks
Painful to see Paul's reaction to learning about Rondo's ACL.
Hey, you know those cheers in the Garden for Ray? That was the LAST TIME Ray Allen is ever gonna hear a cheer for him in Boston. The. Very. Last. Time.
Rondo also found out about it from an espn reporter. then the same reporter told wade w out even checking to see of it was ok to tell anyone. i feel bad that rondo and the boys all found out about it through the media but thats what happons in crazy situations like this.
watch out for this team to add a big man and excese people’s expectations. boston wants it more then ever now. i stand behind the truth on this season. if we can beat the knicks thunder and heat we can best anyone. anything is possible. i hate how people try to predict the future. sure I would not like to bet money on it, but we are a great team.
with that being said, we really need to prove this within the next few weeks. maybe ironically no rondo is the thing that finally gives the team that missing spark they all talk about. peirce is a great point forward and we still have some room to add a couple players.
what happens when a team loses a player for the season. does cap space open up? or does ot stay the exact same. i know w green it opened up, bit that was before the season started. can a player be traded while injured?
