Thumbnail: As we discussed earlier this week on CelticsHub, the C’s have showed a nice bounceback on the defensive end over the last seven games since bring called out as soft by Doc Rivers against Brooklyn a couple weeks back. The dity little secret over that stretch is that Boston has faced off with a number of inferior and subpar offenses, which has aided their ascension back to the top-10.

Tonight though, the first true test comes to light as the C’s face off with a team that utilitizes the pick-and-roll and shoots 3-pointers almost as much as any team in the league. Keeping Harden and Lin will be a tall task, while also attempting to keep Asik off the offensive glass all night. Boston has the offensive weapons this year to keep pace for a shootout, but to be honest, their weapons aren’t as dangerous as Houston’s. They have to slow Houston down on the defensive end to have a chance tonight and be sound with their rotations and coverages.

Prediction: Celtics 97, Rockets 93

Have you no pride? Why do you consistently write at a sixth grade level?

    "since bring called out"

    "The dity little secret"

"Keeping Harden and Lin will be a tall task, while also attempting to keep Asik off the offensive glass all night."

Your writing is cringe worthy and pitiful.

Really looking forward to the game tonight, Houston is one of the most entertaining teams to watch, and they're not on national TV enough to see that often (I miss the free League Pass preview from the start of the year.)

I think they match up pretty well with the Cs for the mentioned pick and roll and three point shooting. The Cs need either Pierce's 3pt slump or Terry's everything slump to end if they want to win this.

  • High Rollers

Fatigue reared its ugly head tonight. Record minutes for RR Wednesday took its toll Then there was P… and the bench… Dog days.

  • WTF

it's so sad that the Cs do not know how to defend a one man team anymore. Think back how they defended Kobe and LeBron in past seasons, it looks like life time ago. And this time, they got beat by, Craig Smith? That's travesty. Fire Doc Rivers! He's not a team building coach, especially on defensive end. Once an elite team becomes so mediocre this year under his guidance even the roaster has been upgraded.

4th quarter collapse…again. Perhaps in the 20011 and 2012 4th quarter collapses against Miami were expected, the consistent collapses during the past 5-6 games are inexcusable. Doc has a bench – either the players stink (Danny's fault) or Doc has no idea how to play them…

  • Chris

Lots of careless turnovers from Rondo tonight.

And, Jeff Green's face-up game 15+ feet from the basket needs more versality. He goes right nearly every time, rarely pulls up, and often ends up taking a contested shot at the rim. He has good length and reach on the shot, but if he goes to it 75% of the time it becomes very easy for the defense to react.

What will Pierce's shooting percentage look like by the end of the season? If it remains where it is, this team is in trouble.

  • elroz

So, they are looking at 3 straight losses now, right? San Antonio tomorrow..then Chicago. Maybe at San Antonio Doc could try and learn a few things from coach Pop?

  • elroz

Pierce really should figure out some other way to help the team – he is shooting his worst field goal % ever..and his 3-point % is also one of his all-time low. Green is disappearing again.

  • High Rollers

Rough night. Sad days. Not for basketball reasons. Life first, ball second.

  • elroz

BASS: either Doc has no idea what to do …or Bass has no drive to succeed. But his contributions the last 10 games have been horrid..he has given nothing. Big Baby is looking like a steal this season.

  • leeboo1211

Pierce looks older and older. I don't remember seeing so many airballs on his step-back jumper in a short span of the last few games.

  • janos

i am home tonight watch game , on tv , but is not mood good due of event today

  • Phil

Games like this are frustrating (more so when effort appears to be a major negative,) but I don't think we learned anything new. This isn't a contending team without Bradley, and their play has reflected that all year. Terry played better off the bench, but the starters got destroyed coming out of the gates in the 1st and 3rd quarters. An elite defensive SG who has proved that he fits in perfectly with the other 4 would help that problem a lot.

Aside from that, put another tally on the 'no' portion of the 'can Jeff Green play the 4' board. That stretch where Doc tried to get away with a Sully/Green/Pierce front court pretty much ended the game.

  • geo

The one positive i can take from tonight is that Sully is being taken really seriously by defenses as a rookie, he literally has someone draped on him at all times he is in the game even more so than Bass or Garnett.
Other than that, Hey Celtics, does anyone remember that it is possible to score the ball within 18 feet??
don't fall in love with the mid range jump shot!! remember that when you miss that jump shot, no one is challenging the defense for the rebound!!!

    loosing streak is coming
    championship contenders My Ass
