Game 11: Celtics (6-4) @ Pistons (1-9) Open Thread

The Pistons have been so bad lately, it probably is making them long for the AI days.

Boston at Detroit
7:30 P.M. ET
The Palace Of Auburn Hills

Offensive Efficiency:

Boston: 106.4 points/100 possessions (8th)

Detroit: 101.8 points/100 possessions (24th)

Defensive Efficiency:

Boston: 103.7 points allowed/100 possessions(22nd)

Detroit: 107.4 points allowed/100 possessions(27th)

Probable Detroit starters:

Brandon Knight(PG), Kyle Singler (SG), Tayshaun Prince (SF), Greg Monroe (PF), Jason Maxiell (C)

View From The Opposing Bench: Piston Powered

Thumbnail: Darko Milicic is out due to personal reasons, Jason Collins is back after a one-game absence and the C’s are looking to finish up a four game in five nights stretch with their third win. Assuming Boston doesn’t sleepwalk through this one, which became much more unlikely after the blowout win against Toronto, Boston should have the legs to take care of business quite handily against an inept Detroit squad on both sides of the floor.

I'm sort of okay with losing this game, but I'm not okay if Rondo's assist streak is broken too. Does that make me a bad fan?

    • someguyinsac

The streak lives, so now I can say I'm really ticked off about them giving the Pistons, of all teams, win #2 at our expense.

      • High Rollers

Our seventh game in ten days. Their second win total. No real surprise. Just a stinker of a ball game from the Green side of things.

        • High Rollers

The shots not falling is one thing. But the vanishing act on D is unacceptable. Those guys must have really been exhausted.

  • The Cardinal

Whoa Nellie – this is definitely one of those stinkers where the C's are playing as if just showing up against a weak opponent is enough. Rondo should have 15 – 18 assists, but no one can hit a jump shot, and the aggressiveness to the basket ain't there.

Bass is in a shooting funk that's messing with his head defensively and on the boards, Maxiell and the rookie continue to punk our front line, Green and Lee look lost, Terry is completely out of sync, and the band plays on…we've got a ways to go y'all.

  • GowGow

If people were knocking down the shots they were supposed to, Rondo would've had 20+ assists and we'd be winning by double digits.

    • Phil

It also would've helped if the Pistons scorers weren't the anti-Boston ones when it came to handing out assists. There were a few plays where Rondo would pass the ball, the guy would turn and shoot, and you waited for the 'from Rajon Rondo', only it never came. They were basically only counting alley oops for a while. I think they could've easily gotten away with complaining for an extra assist somewhere if he did get stuck at nine.

Stagnant half court offense, come on Doc, let the kids play! Or even better, actually construct an offense instead of just running KG in the post or Terry/Pierce running through screens. Different team same old plays..

    • tomrod

Rondo and KG are the only ones that are shooting well. No wonder since apparently they are the only ones allowed to dribble and get into a rythm. Terry, Green and Pierce, they all need to shoot in rythm off the dribble… and they are not being allowed to.

Shortly ppl will be calling for Doc's head. The offense is EXACTLY the same year after year. We see flashes of greatness from Rondo-Wilcox, Barbosa ISOs, yet none of that has any staying power. Joke. Total joke.

      • Phil

I can't imagine a scenario bad enough that would lead to one intelligent fan calling for Doc's head. Even if Doc wasn't a clear top 5 coach in the league, part of calling for a coach's head involves giving a new one the job. Mike Brown's free I guess. I'm sure Cs fans would be pumped about that!

        • CelticsBIG3

I'm not saying to get rid of Doc, but ppl will if these trends continue. Whats upsetting is that he ran Rondo through the fourth quarter to continue a f'n assist streak. Thats a joke.

  • GowGow

By the way, Sullinger saved Rondo's butt. He gave him assist 8, 9, and 10. I hope you guys appreciate the rookie a little bit more. I hated it when three games ago you were saying "Nobody's talking about his IQ lately".

    • CelticsBIG3

Heard that, Sully saved the streak. I think the real fear here is that the Celtics were playing to continue the streak. Thats stuff that LOSING teams do to boost morale. Bullsh!t.

      • smalltownID

Couldn't agree more. Really pisses me off that Doc would do that. Who gives a flying crap about the streak? I guarantee Magic and Stockton were unconcerned with their streaks and no coaches were doing them any favors. Stupid. I hate the padding that Rondo does with assists. Makes me throw up in my mouth. As much as I hate it though Rondo is as old school as it gets. Shows how much the NBA has changed.

  • tbunny

The third quarter was the most miserable suckiest poo-poo I've seen in many a year. I guess it's a good thing only about 3 thousand people showed up to see that suck fest.

  • CelticsBIG3

Just when things appeared to be straightening up a bit, we get this performance. Tsk tsk tsk Celtics. A friend of mine wanted to put some money on this game and I told him it was a sure thing. NOW I FEEL LIKE AN ASSHOLE.

  • Morpheus

    Where the F is Darko?

  • elroz

Well that was horrid. They now are saying that this was the last game of the hardest stretch of the season for the Celtics – 7 games in 10 days with a lot of flights back and forth between games… but I'm confused – plenty of the players are young and have NOT been overburdened with a lot of minutes. It's not like Green, Lee, Wilcox, and Barbosa are at the end of their careers and have played excessive minutes!!! I say the psychological-mental preparation – that's in part Doc's job – for this game was CRAP.
Danny has brought talent to this team..but this team is NOT jelling at all…bunch of players but no team. Back to square one. You're talking about a 20 point loss to a team marginally better than the 0-8 Washington! That is a shame…what "Celtic pride" ? They look like bums. Fukin Rasheed Wallace is playing better with more effort than Green.

    • GowGow

LOL. It's funny to read these kind of things after one loss. People already pushing the panic button. Meh.

    Rivers is turrible coach

    Bring the Mike Brown !!!!!
