O.J. Mayo broke the news of his own signing earlier tonight on his Twitter account, declaring he was headed to Dallas. The signing eliminated the pipe dream of Mayo coming to Boston, knowing his services would be far too costly for Boston’s resources. The thing I am wondering about however is if the C’s could somehow be involved in this deal in a three-team or four-team capacity, involving Jason Terry.
The Mavs only have $4 million dollars of cap room at the moment, meaning Mayo is signing below market value or the Mavs are likely going to have to make subsequent moves to obtain Mayo, or are doing so via a sign-and-trade. Could it be a 3-way deal with Mavs sending Terry to Boston, C’s sending filler (JaJuan Johnson, E’Twaun Moore, Sean Williams and a pick to Memphis and Mayo to Dallas?). I have to think some deal like that might be in play here down the road, if Boston can get creative enough and Memphis wants something back for Mayo. No report yet though on any terms or a sign-and-trade, so we will have to wait for more information before getting ahead of ourselves here, but you have to think something more is involved with the signing, whether or not it involves the Celtics directly.
