It’s no secret that Miami will be in pursuit of Ray Allen at midnight tonight, but the latest team added to the Ray Allen sweepstakes is none other than the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. The Grizz will have the full mid-level exception and a potential spot in the starting lineup (ahead of Tony Allen) for his liking. This brings Ray’s options to the following.
Miami: Best shot at championship, least amount of money (3 million), likely bench role
Phoenix: No shot at championship, starting job and potentially biggest contract
Memphis: Mid-level exception money (5 million) and potential starting job on talented team with outside shot at Finals run.
Then of course, there’s the Celtics who will probably offer at least the mid-level money and a significant role off the bench. Of course, Allen may be another way to sign-and-trade for O.J. Mayo potentially as well, but Steve Bulpett of The Boston Herald tweets that Boston still wants to bring back Ray. That makes two of us.
Will Boston have enough to woo Ray from the other suitors? We’ll find out soon….
