Chris Wilcox will miss the remainder of the season with a heart ailment. Gary Washburn:
Wilcox, who underwent monthly heart examinations, was held out of the March 9 game against the Portland Trail Blazers because a test detected a potential abnormality. The power forward then underwent more testing at the Cleveland Clinic and like, teammate Jeff Green, will be forced to miss extensive time.
It is uncertain whether Wilcox will need surgery or whether he will be able to play again, but the team is seeking another big man to replace him on the roster.
This is bad news but somewhat expected given the tenor of the comments coming out of the Celtics organization since the abnormality was detected. Let’s hope Wilcox makes a full recovery and is able to play ball again next season.
From a roster point-of-view, this only underscores Danny Ainge’s need to add a big or two if he expects the Celtics to be competitive the remainder of the season. Wilcox could be released to make room for another player or traded as an expiring contract.
