Chris Forsberg reports that Chris Wilcox has not traveled with the team to Los Angeles because a routine heart examination revealed the need for more testing. Chris has no publicized history of cardiac issues, but this is obviously not something with which you play around.
The word “indefinitely” is a scary one, because it implies the possibility of losing Wilcox for the season. But I’m assuming it just means they don’t know the severity of his condition: Chuck Hayes had his contract voided due to a heart condition earlier this year, but further tests revealed he was okay and he ended up not missing any games.
But this is, of course, the second heart issue a Celtics player has dealt with this year, and the other cost Jeff Green his season. Jeff Green’s specific condition was an aortic aneurysm, which is a weakness in the wall of the artery. The Celtics also famously lost Reggie Lewis and Len Bias to heart failure.
