Fire Up Rumor Mill: Rasheed Wallace Considering NBA Return

Just when you think the whispers have stopped, we have a reason for them to begin again. The news in via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports that Rasheed Wallace is thinking about an NBA return:

At 6-foot-11, Wallace, 37, had been one of the most versatile and talented power forwards of his era. One league source who has talked with Wallace recently describes him as “serious” about a return to the NBA this season. Nevertheless, no teams contacted by Yahoo! Sports reported that they had any contact with Wallace, or his representative.

When reached on Friday, Wallace’s agent, Bill Strickland, would only tell Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears: “As a veteran player, [Wallace] knows what it takes to be reinstated.”

Wallace holds appeal for several contending teams, but all wonder about his shape and conditioning after sitting out 18 months. Wallace played 79 regular season games for the Celtics in his final year, but the organization never felt he truly got into playing shape until the playoff run to the NBA Finals in 2010. In a limited role, several GMs told Yahoo! they still believe his scoring and defending ability would probably be better than anyone else available to them.

Naturally, the C’s will come up in any potential discussion about Sheed and A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com has us covered on that possibility:

A league source told CSNNE.com Thursday night that Wallace will give the Celtics some consideration, but “he’s going to look at all his options” before making any decision.

What say you C’s fans? Maybe the 37-year old can help the C’s with his offensive rebounding?

    In a word: No.

We need YOUTH. I watched an eighty year old Vince Carter blow by Jermaine ONeal on wednesday. VINCE CARTER!!

Agreed….he was fun in his prime, but the last thing that this teams is another guy who is nearing retirement….oops, I mean, coming out of retirement.

NO! The post after this one gives the answer. If this team is willing to give a guy a chance, it should be Stiemsma. We have enough has-beens and should-be-pensioners to run a VH1 marathon.

One might say, "would it hurt to have another big?". YES. We have 2 centers trying to get acclimated to the way this team plays. If there's playing time to spare (there is), it should go to Wilcox and Stiemsma, even if it hurts our record.

I don't care if Sheed comes back looking like the amazing Hulk. With his conditioning history and age, even if he does make a phenomenal comeback, he's one sprained ankle away from losing a season.

For the record, same goes for any player over 35, at any position, if he's not currently playing for the Suns. That team makes no sense at all…

idk how he can sign with anyone else since were still paying him almost 7 mil this year from his old contract

Sheed! I say bring him back if only to slap the s*** out of Dwight Howard in the playoffs again. That's fun.

Absolutely – any time an old and slow team has the chance to get older and slower, they have to take it.

Please no more old men. Develop Stiemsma.
