WOJ CORRECTION: Now it’s Paul to Lakers, Gasol to Rockets, and Odom, Goran Dragic, Kevin Martin, and Scola to NO.
Yikes. I sure wonder where Rondo's head is at right now.
Do we cry now…
rondo for dwight?
Joke of the century?
Nah thats stupid. He would have a better chance going to the Lakers than that
Bynum stays in LA, Gasol goes to NO with Lamar.
At the very best, all these shenanigans spur Rondo to post a crazy year like 09-10 (and work on his free throws.. please..)
I'm happy Rajon's staying!!
And he just corrected it to Gasol and Odom. Are you kidding me? Dell Demps you are a moron
You mean Stern ahah
Post updated to reflect the two recent changes to this report. Keep 'em coming, Woj!
Hornets are getting Odom and Gasol, then flipping Gasol to the Rockets for Scola+Kevin Martin+Goran Dragic.
Actually not a bad deal for New Orleans.
damn…looks like we're bucked
Looks like a home run for the Lakers.
Ehh. Losing 2/3 of their size, and having Bynum as their only big man?
Assume Howard is next.
I've been hearing people talk about this but who do they trade for Dwight?
Not sure they have to trade him.
At this point D12 can just say, I'm walking in the summer, which will depress any offers ORL receives that aren't from L.A. The Magic can trade him to L.A. for Bynum or Howard can just go there in the summer….
Assumed. BUT… y'all are talking fantasy basketball where all the most talented stay the healthiest and have the best chemistry and win all the championships. Nice fodder. BUT… Couple things to think twice about. Kobe Bryant's tires are arguably as bald as KG's and no trip to a papal auto parts store is going to change that. Chris Paul's knees are only a slightly better bet than Andrew Bynum's. In fantasy, free agent, post lockout, nobody's touched a basketball yet land, Dwight Howard's on the Mount Rushmore of centers in NBA history. YET… Kendrick Perkins, who among other things couldn't jump or even make an offensive rebound without then dropping his arms down way too low to save his life, gave Superman fits. Dwight Howard should thank LeBron for taking the heat off of him in the 2010 playoffs. He has off the charts stats AND recurring flaws. If they get D12 and end up with a chemistry similar to the '08 Celtics, well, then hat's off to 'em. But there are plenty of reasons (in Reality Land) to be skeptical.
You know they're trading bynum for howard right? After this one I think it's a given…
Yep, Stern will trade Bynum for Dwight, then amnesty Bynum, then sign him again. It's Stern he breaks rules. Nope, he rapes rules. IDIOT.
Looks like the gasol deal all over again. Seems like TV and merchandise are still pretty important when getting certain players to certain teams…sigh…
Stern….Stern….Stern. Come on, NO accepted that offer my ass. Stern accepted that offer.
The lakers can't possible sign and trade David West with the hornets can they? As they don't really have a PF at the moment….
Question. Was Big Baby in the offer?
Paul, Kobe and Dwight are not enough to win it all. The Lakers have now lost 2/3 of their size. The other size on the squad sucks and isnt 6-11/7 ftrs. They still need a PF that can shoot and rebound, those guys are scarce.
They still have blake, artest, barnes , walton they can trade those guys and with bynum get howard, or without bynum get like nene or david west or whatever this just sucks…
No offense to Luke Walton…he is no asset. Barnes is not much of a deal sweetener either.
If they trade Blake, they would still have Fischer as their back-up PG I guess….so Blake could be a nice addition to Bynum.
Don't get me wrong, with Paul, Kobe, Artest, and Bynum they have good pieces….
Paul/Kobe/D12 is almost too much to win. Best point guard and center, and probably 2nd best shooting guard in the game.
Well, I think Paul, Kobe, and Dwight would be enough…but Paul and Kobe not enough.
this seems like the nba giving a player away
I cannot even approach the rationale of some teams when trading players. How can u give Kevin Martin, Scola and Dragic for a 32 years old player. I know Gasol is one of the best centers in nba. But how can now Rockets refill the gaps they created? I wish CP3 snub a potential new contract with LA the coming July and land himself in another team. Not Boston because the playmaker's position doesn't need any upgrade.
Is it true that the Celtics just gave Keyon Dooling the MMLE ? sigh…..
HAYNES WHOSE RESPONSBILE THIS!
Hey janos, no one to blame here but Stern. When in doubt, blame Stern!
The Rockets man. Hornets got a ton of quality players. But if Gasol isn't shipped along with a couple of 1st round picks, the Rockets just allowed themselves to get robbed.
At least the Lakers had to give up Odom too. That's not as bad a scenario as it could be. They also have pretty much only Bynum to offer for Howard. NOH got the best they could. Honestly, there's no comparison between Odom-Scola-Dragic and Kevin Martin? 3 premier starters and a young promising pg…
Anyway, way to go Ainge. If I was Rondo, I'd request a trade as soon as this season ends. Let's see how you rebuild now.
Well, the Lakers just got rid of Gasol and Odom – their key front court guys! NO I think got a lot of good players – Odom, Scola, Martin!
Let me remind everyone that Kobe went 6-24 in game 7 in 2010…Gasol helped much more.
Now if the Lakers get Dwight – next season, I assume? – then we can talk of a major contender…but not w/o Dwight, w/o Gasol, and w/o Odom. If they get Dwight for this season, that's a different story.
Cannot see right now how Orlando would give up Dwight for anything LA has…or what LA could offer to a 3rd team now.
NO got Odom, Scola, and Martin! Did Houston get the worst end of the deal?
Stern says hello.
Huh? How about Howard for Bynum?
sorry for angers post but this is the bullshit. not enough players celtics get now? already have bad day today and now worses.
I really liked CP3 too. One of my favorite players. This means i'll have to hate him now, right?
Yeah. I know what you mean: I used to love Shaq, then he went to the Lakers. It actually felt good that he was with us last season because I could root for him again.
Anyway, Lakernation people are thinking they can get Howard now but doesn't this strengthen New Jersey's hand? Wouldn't you rather have Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries than Bynum straight-up, especially if Prokhorov agrees to take Hedo's albatross?
No, I'd rather have Bynum. Bynum is MUCH better than Lopez.
Dwight Howard doesn't want to go to New Jersey. Do you?
This was worst case scenario right? I mean sure, the Lakers seem to get worse initially, but there chances of getting Dwight just increased. By a lot.
Probably better he's in the western conference than the eastern. But that's cold comfort.
I'd rather see him go to anyone else in the league except for the lakers.
CHILL OUT EVERYBODY! we got Kenyon Dooling!!!
oh, and Rockets are even giving a 1st rounder to the Hornets. What the hell is wrong with those guys, did the Lakers buy them or something???
I have no idea what kind of talent calculator Houston is using….how many times can you trade for Gasol at once?
KEYON DOOLING OH MY GOODNESS! You go Danny!
Stern in trying to create a Bi-coastal LA-Miami or LA-New York rivalry, I think. He wants to make sure only the Lakers are competitive in the west so that we can have annual Heat-Lakers or Lakers-New York (Nets or Knicks) finals.
Seriously. I am not a conspiracy theorist in the least but I wouldn't be surprised if this were part of the league's thinking. It makes sense because the TV contracts will be up for renewal in a few years and nothing gets more lucrative than the certainty of marquee/glamour teams fighting it out for the title, year-in, year-out.
Wasn't part of the reason for the lock-out the lack of competitive balance? Now we have a bunch of super-teams coming together (Miami, Knicks, Lakers, even the Nets). It's insane. Of course, we may have started it all with our Big Three, but still…
Well, Chitown also has a darn good team….but Boston didn't start it all, KG and Ray Allen had already played 10 years or so…and by most accounts if they were not on the decline (who expected Ray's 2011 numbers?!) but with their best seasons behind them.
Can we try this now http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId…
and jeff green and big baby in there to compensate?
I don't have the brain power to comprehend the real outcome and benefit-loss of this for Boston…though moving JO is not bad…but then we are already thin up front…
Maybe this one ^^ http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId…
Oh come on. Why is NJ dying to give up on Deron? (Hint: They're not.)
Yeah I know it was just for kicks. But the first one I wouldn't mind, I know it would be a downgrade in PG but the other two players would definitely help build a future for the team (I think gulp…)
Correct me if i'm wrong but the Fakers got a trade exception as well.
Oh god. You're right. Even more reason for me to believe they're getting Dwight.
It's done, Dwight, CP3 and Kobe for not1, not2, not3, not4………………ARRRRRRGH
This trade makes no sense for a number of reasons.
Firstly.. we didnt get Paul DUMB.
2. Why were the lakers so dominant in years past? LENGTH. They just traded away their two best, and most consistent rebounders. Yes, the plan is to get DH, but lets not forget that pau averaged 18ppg/11rpg and 20ppg/11/rpg in both championship seasons, and lamar was 13/9, and 10/9 during those seasons. This changes the dynamics of their team.
3. HOUSTON GOT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Pau Gasol? Who had his worst season as a Laker last year, and in the playoffs. That may contradict what I said in number 2, but at the same time Pau was still a valuable asset to how the lakers played. And When you look at what Houston gave up!? Are you kidding me? Scola – 11ppg/7rpg, Martin – coming off a career high shooting the ball from 3 and averaging around 20ppg for the last four seasons! Plus some other guy and a draft pick. wow. dumb.
4. NOH got a great deal. Paul is obviously the best player of this draft, but New Orleans got everything they wanted. Great players to build around in martin, scola, and odom.
WOW. Now what the hell do we do? Please don't trade for Nash.
Yeah, what the heck was Houston thinking? They get a 32-year-old on the downside of his career, and this doesn't make them contenders.
I just hope Otis Smith is dumb enough to trade Bynum for D12 straight up.
But with the inexplicably bone headed move that the Rockets just made anything is possible.
Daryl Morey (Rockets GM) is supposed to be a smart moneyball guy. And he's a former Celtic guy. So this makes NO sense unless eh got a nice wire transfer to his account in the Camoens this morning.
obviously I meant to say "I hope Otis Smith ISN'T dumb enough"
I'll hate the Fakers till the grave
"NBA owners have pushed commissioner David Stern to kill the deal sending Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell Y! Sports."
Yo guys apparently the Laker deal is OFF!!! no joke http://twitter.com/%40ESPNSteinLine
