The headline is for you Seinfeld fans because the news on Paul Pierce is good.
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe tweeted the following just minutes ago:
CH Analysis: This is much-needed news for the Celtics. The injury is minor enough that Pierce won’t even have to miss a game (also, it doesn’t appear like he’ll be handicapped in trying to protect his Three-Point Shootout title from the dastardly likes of Ray Allen).
However, it’d be prudent for Doc Rivers to keep Pierce’s minutes down against New Jersey and after the all-star break. The captain is averaging almost 40 minutes a game over his last five (season average: 34.9) and that kind of run could aggravate the injury.
The negative MRI aside, the Celtics will need to lean heavily on Von Wafer, and perhaps a returning Delonte West, until Danny Ainge can find another warm body to backup the 3-spot. Read Brian’s post from earlier this morning for a good overview of where the Celtics stand on that issue.
