Post-game Reactions

After a few weeks of rumored tension regarding the signing of Shaquille O’Neal and his relationship to C’s starting center Kendrick Perkins, Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, caught up with Perk over the phone and got the big man to speak about Shaq, his rehab and more: Unsurprisingly Perk walked the company line well here:

On Shaq:
“I thought it was a great pickup for what we got him for,” Perkins said by phone from Texas. “Shaq is a Hall of Famer. He can always help us. I think it was a great pickup. I am glad that he is on the team. We just got one goal, and that’s just trying to win the ring.”

On Earning Back His Starting Center Spot Even When He Returns:

“I don’t see it threatening me at all,” he said. “I gotta work hard. I know I gotta fight to get back to where I was. It’s no problem with me. Hard work is not a problem.”

On The Rehab:
“I’ve been doing a lot of rehabbing, make sure I get my work in every day,” he said. “Make sure I keep my weight down, just taking it one day at a time. I’m walking without crutches, so that’s a plus. The swelling is my leg went down so everything’s coming around pretty quickly. Right now I can’t work out like I want to, I can’t hoop. But everything else is doing great.”

On Team’s Offseason Moves
“Those are great guys, Jermaine and Shaq, who should help pretty well,” he said. “It’s good to have everybody back. We’re pretty much all like a family. We got very good chemistry going and guys got one goal in mind and that’s to win the ring. I’m glad everybody is back.”

I love me some Perk…I hope he is back ASAP. But plz don’t rush him

“Hard work is not a problem.”

Love Perk. He’s one of my favorite Celtics.

I think the Celts did better this summer than most (including most Celtics fans) have even given them credit for. I think there will be more rebounding, fast breaking, and some fun thrown in there. Let it all hang out!

    hard work and ANGRY EYES!

such a pleasure to have a guy like Perk to cheer for.

@ Green… I just went to post the same quote. This is what we tell our kids about. Perk rocks!

Other than the summer of ’07 the Celtics made some great move this off season. Shaq, Jermaine, Wafer, resigning Pierce. Other than losing TA they did better than most teams out there and may have two good additions from the draft. Perk should not be worried about his starting job. Once he is back close to 100% he will be the starter again. Until then I hope he accepts a bench role for a short time until he gets back to that level.

good to hear he’s doing alright.

Such a player though, knows his role and does it well.

anybody see the latest sporting news….i almost flipped right past the article because i saw this big guy with a huge smile…it was perk….

  • dont_drink_the_koolaid

    perk is a solid dude.

he must have the “big shamrock” firmly in his mind everyday while rehabbing. hope he comes back as strong as ever and locks-down a good contract.

  • Jon

This is going to be the longest month and a half of my life…. ready for the season to start.

  • ron

with shaq on the team, perks can take a longer rehab time. take your time perks, your spot on the team is secured.

  • ego roots

First class, Perk, first class… get well soon

You guys must not make any money on the weekends. It appears you close shop.

    Well, except for the crickets.

Let’s not forget that if not for the knee injury Perk would be wearing a jersey with USA on the front for the next month.

  • Jim P.

Also let’s not forget that Perk wasn’t in game 7 and the Celtics should be the champions, no doubt. Any Lakers fan think otherwise? You all know it, and now that Perk has back-up just imagine the problems all the other teams will have now. The Celtics are a team with a history of “team” spirit. Bird could have taken all the glory, but instead shared it with Kevin and Robert. It was always the big three. In fact, that’s how the term came about. Throughout the history of the Celtics, it’s never been one player, Russell had Cousy etc. That’s why so called experts never predict a Celtic championship. They always think of the one star as being capable of beating them, not the team their on.

Just thinking about this the other day, from Danny,Docs side.Classy, great, purely professional decision they made, coming out and saying that Perk has to “earn” his spot once he returns.
There’s 2 types in this world:

The haves and the have nots.
The Fakers have the ring,we haven’t.You could go on all day about whether or not we would have won game 7,but at the end of the day that banner 18 isn’t going up till we win a finals series.
