Ray Allen’s son, Walker, was hospitalized Friday for an unknown illness, according to Comcast Sports Net (New England) and the AP. It is unclear if the illness is related to Walker’s diabetes, which first surfaced during the 2008 NBA Finals. But, thankfully, whatever the new illness is does not appear serious enough to keep Ray from traveling with the team to Miami for the first game of a four-game road trip.
The AP initially reported Allen might miss Sunday’s game against the Heat, but A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com reports the following:
Ray Allen, coming off a 20-point effort in Boston’s 116-103 win over the Toronto Raptors Friday night, did not practice with the team on Saturday due to a family illness.
However, Allen was able to rejoin the team in time to make their 3 p.m. flight out of Boston to Miami.
Even though he’ll be with the team for Sunday’s game, it’s unclear whether Doc Rivers will start him or have him come off the bench.
